Staycation Rejuvenates The Soul
The idea of unplugging, running away, simply escaping from our responsibilities for just a few hours sounds like a dream come true right? Maybe you are like me and need a change of scenery to make this dream a reality. So, take advantage of your hometown and experience a mini vacation. My husband and I spent a weekend at Retreet in their new two-bedroom cabins on the bluff. Located on Hwy 79 between Guntersville and Scottsboro, Retreet offered the perfect view and just enough mileage between me and my front door to allow my mind and body to truly relax. I didn’t have to wait for weeks, marking days off the calendar to experience a vacation. I didn’t have to drive for hours in traffic or board the dog or stop the mail. I didn’t have any of the worries that come with pre-vacation planning. I just left my office on Friday afternoon and drove 20 minutes. Before I could even think of the word traffic, I was relaxing on the deck of a beautifully decorated cabin admiring this view.

A Cabin With A View
There is something special about water, and we are surrounded by it here at Lake Guntersville. Yet, I rarely take advantage of the restfulness, the peace that can be found near the water. Maybe you are different, and you have a boat, or you walk the trails regularly or maybe you have a home with a view. I am not so lucky and often it takes firm commitment on my part to slow down and just be; to open my eyes to the beauty of what surrounds me every day. Taking a couple of days at Retreet, where the worries of daily life were not consuming me was like a breath of fresh air. I woke on Saturday with the sun shining through my windows, made my way downstairs with my sweet dog, Anna, and popped a pod in the Keurig. Then, we both ventured to the porch where we would remain for most of the day. Dave joined us later in the morning and with the warmth from the fire table, we sat, drank coffee and simply enjoyed the silence of the morning.

A True Escape With Relaxing Amenities
Perched on the bluff with a view of the mountainside and lake, our Retreet cabin had a covered deck with comfy furniture and a gas-fed fire table. The lower deck had a private hot tub and outdoor shower. Dave and I took advantage of the hot tub after a lunch of charcuterie and wine. We brought our food, and the kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to cook several meals. We even had the option of ordering breakfast and having it delivered to our cabin. Upstairs featured two bedrooms. The room we chose had a king bed with a wall of windows facing the bluff. Themed around Italy, the furnishings were rustic Tuscany and brought back memories of our trip there last fall. For two days I simply read, napped and walked through the woods with the dog. Dave listened to music and cooked for us (this is relaxing for him). A perfect way to decompress, relax and enjoy this beautiful world that surrounds us. I firmly recommend a staycation if you are in need of rejuvenation, and Retreet offers multiple options for quick weekend stays or even longer vacations including cabins, treehouses and glamping tents.
